Although I’ve written about this Aquarius/Leo Full Moon in my last blog, I want to revisit it now that we’re here.
With all the changes America and the world have been going through in the past month, it’s important that we stay grounded in our lives – that includes some Leo Sun fun. But it’s also important that we take a step back and look at the bigger picture – that’s the Aquarius Moon.
The Moon is the lens that we see life through (in your birth chart it’s your ‘operating system’). When the Moon is in Aquarius, we intuitively see the bigger picture. Aquarius, and its ruler Uranus, are concerned with cosmic laws, archetypal patterns and our collective beliefs. Aquarius focuses on our collective well-being, how we take care of each other, and how our communities take shape.
Like the Tarot card, The Tower, Uranus is a revelation that breaks us free from old patterns and beliefs, and does it in shocking and immediate ways. Besides being the ruler of this Full Moon, Uranus, which is presently in Taurus, also squares this Full Moon, shaking things up even more. We could have literal earthquakes (Taurus is an earth sign) but we can personally be caught up in emotional earthquakes. And of course, we can keep watching for more political earthquakes in America. Especially since this Aquarius Super Full Moon falls on the Aquarius Moon in the U.S. 4th of July chart. In this country chart, the Moon symbolizes the People, and this Full Moon is going to activate something in the American psyche. Hopefully, it will awaken people to our power as citizens.
The Sun in Leo shines a light on our creativity and self-expression. Where have we used the spiritual fire of our lives to express who we are? That’s why Leo is associated with children, for they are expressions of our physical creativity. But Leo is also about our intellectual, emotional and spiritual children as well.
So when the Sun and Moon oppose each other in Leo and Aquarius we get to see how our gifts and creations, our self-expression affects the collective mindset. Or is a gift to the collective. Are we willing to share our great gift of life with others, for the benefit of the whole?
This is why the image of The Round Table is so appropriate. At Guenevere and Arthur’s Round Table, they gathered those women and men who were willing to serve the Land and its people. I’ll be diving into the stories of some of those ladies and knights who sat there in future substacks.
Guenevere, the Queen, is the physical manifestation of the Sovereignty of the Land, the Great Mother of Life and Partner to the King. She is the the feminine, feeling side of life, the foundational energy that supports the collective culture.
Guenievere brings the Round Table to Camelot, so everyone who sits at it is equal. She’s already showing us what the land needs. It needs equality and freedom, instead of one ruler who sits over all. A very Aquarian image, don’t you think?
Arthur, the King, serves as the organizing principle of this culture, the collective dominant that shapes the beliefs and rules of a tribe or culture. He is the masculine protector of the land, the people and his queen. He puts his life on the line to defend his people from death and invasion. And then he gathers others to help him govern fairly. If the central organizing principle behind Camelot is The Round Table, its ideals are equality, responsibility and stewardship. At this Round Table, women and men are equals, all races are welcome and everyone has a gift or purpose that helps govern the land.
Ancient myths still speak to us of the lessons of life and how to solve them. In a previous substack I wrote about the Wounded King and the Wasteland. In America and around the world, we are seeing the old king, patriarchy, trying to stay in power. But it is time to put that king to bed and let a new King and Queen, a new collective mindset, heal the land. In the Wasteland stories, it is the Holy Grail which heals the land. It is always the power of the Divine Feminine that takes back the dead and brings forth new life.
This feminine power can be accessed by anyone, although often women can access its power more freely. It is the power of the imagination, of the soul, of emotional intelligence that can heal us now. As we leave behind the rules of the ‘father’s house’, we have the freedom to listen to our own inner wisdom. If we are humble enough to listen to that inner voice, we can shape a new way of living for ourselves and our world.
We can create a better world.
Leo-Aquarius Full Moon, August 19, 2024
The Leo-Aquarius Full Moon is a Super Moon (perigee: meaning it’s close to Earth and so appears larger) and it occurs on August 19, 2024 at 11:26am PDT/ 12:26pm MT/1:26pm CDT/2:26pm EDT and 7:26pm GMT.
This Full Moon occurs at 27*15’ of Aquarius/Leo. The Star Sparks reading for the Aquarius Moon at 28* is: A tapestry loom with a half-finished tapestry on it. It seems we have work to finish up, both personally and collectively. Personally, a whole cycle of lives on Earth is coming to fruition. So be bold! With this being the degree of the US’s Aquarius Moon, it is indeed time for a new constitution, a new reorganization of our nation’s beliefs and systems. Get rid of the Electoral College. Voting rights to all citizens. Abortion rights for Women. Rules for Supreme Court judges. Better rules for Senate and Congress. Corporations aren’t people. Tax the wealthy fairly. Set limits on social media and AI. There’s so much work ahead of us. Aren’t you excited?
The Star Sparks for the 28* Leo Sun is: Men doing gymnastics. (once again, love sychronicity. The US men’s gymnastics team finally won a bronz medal-- the first medal since 2008!) This is a reminder that we have to care for and strengthen our physical bodies as well as our emotional bodies. Because we still have lots of work to do in finishing up that tapestry! For when we do take care of our ‘temple’, it can bring us great joy and freedom. Be Here Now!
Physical Life is not sinful. It is a blessing!
This intense Full Moon occurs on the Aquarius Moon of America’s 4th of July birth chart. The Moon symbolizes The People, and this Full Moon is going to motivate people to participate in what’s going on in our country. We need to ask ourselves what we all need from our government and then demand that it happens – since it’s our hard work and tax money that are funding things. Remember, the original Founding Fathers were revolutionaries.
The Full Moon is square/challenged by Uranus in Taurus, asking us how much longer are we going to ignore climate change and get on with Mother Earth’s healing. With Uranus at the apex of this fixed T-square, we’re asked to give our creativity to the group mind. This is the time when we can become social catalysts for collective reform and social progress. (Don’t you love the synchronicity of these energies to what’s going on in the world!) It’s a force for tremendous social awakenings.
Talk, write, create art, sing, dance – express your Leo truth. And expect the unexpected! (Being a Cat Lady, I love the creativity that is going into letting Cats have their say!) And before Leo was a lion, she was Sekhmet, Lioness goddess of Egypt!
T-squares are tension-filled aspects – think of the tension of drawing back a bow! When you release it, we find the 4th foot of this aspect, which brings balance and grounding. With this one, it’s in Scorpio – the sign of death and rebirth and transformation. We have the asteroid Pallas Athena in that 4th foot, activating a potent fixed grand cross. Pallas is the goddess of strategic wisdom, so use her energy to help you deal with any emotions that come up.
The Aquarius Full Moon comes a day after Mercury retrograde meets up with the Sun, so Mercury is conjunct the Sun at this Full Moon. This energy gives us the power to listen to our inner truths at the same time as we remain grounded in our reality. It opens our throat chakras and helps us express our truths
There is a second T-square in this Full Moon chart, between Venus in Virgo opposite Saturn retrograde in Pisces, with both of them squaring Jupiter and Mars in Gemini. Venus/Aphrodite embodies Soul whatever sign she’s in, so in Virgo, she is the Virgin Mother with her Child, meaning she has borne fruit this year. What new project/idea/child have you brought into the world this year? Congratulations!
With Saturn in Pisces opposite her, she acknowledges the longing and needs of the collective which have been ignored for so long. Perhaps her Child will feed us and help our longing hearts find peace.
While both planets in Gemini can lead to boredom and restlessness, if used well, we can focus on what we need to do (Mars) and bring some intellectual /wise (Jupiter) insights into our situation, this can motivate us to step up and help change the societal dynamic. With Venus opposite Saturn, don’t let what’s happening in your life and the world make you depressed! These are the things that make us stronger. Show yourself some self-love, open up to the needs of the collective unconscious and spirit, and analyse what needs to get done. Then use the Mars/Jupiter conjunction to do something about it. The 4th leg of the triangle is in Sagittarius – the truth speaker and wisdom seeker. Listen to your inner wisdom, which first entails loving yourself enough to trust what you hear!
Both of these T-squares combined involve 8 planets, leaving Pluto retrograde at 0*15’ Aquarius and Neptune retrograde at 29*21’ Pisces to form a YOD to the Leo Sun. Both planets are at karmic points in the zodiac – Pluto will go back into 29*+ Capricorn on September 1st, the day Uranus goes retrograde and a day before the Virgo New Moon. They are pointing the sword of Truth – Excalibur – at our Leo Sun. Will our inner ‘king’ take up this sword of spiritual truth and defend life?
Hours after this Full Moon, Jupiter in Gemini squares Saturn in Pisces, the first of three squares for these social planets. Their cycle began on December 21, 2020 when they conjuncted at 1* Aquarius. For the first time in over 800 years, these two planets that shape our society came together in an Air sign. We will be shaping our society along different lines now that their conjunctions are no longer in earth signs. While the economy has shaped our society for the past 200 years, now it will be shared ideas and technological advancements that will shape us. You can read about it at my old blog:
https://wisdom-of-astrology.blogspot.com/2020/12/the-cosmic-story-grand-conjunction.html
This first quarter square will challenge up to bring our ideas (Jupiter in Gemini) in line with the new belief system that is shaping up while Sature is in Pisces. We have to look at where we’ve been and decide what kind of future we want. Isn’t it time to dump war and poverty and loneliness and inequality and bullying? Our souls are longing for a better world and this first square is setting us up to do something about it. So don’t sit back on the couch!
As you can see, the cosmic energies are building up this late summer and fall, when there will be eclipses and reversals (retrograde to direct) up through the US elections. You were born for these times. Embrace your destiny!
